CBC article on RFID

I'm noticing that a lot of people do not trust technology solely because they only focus on their fears instead of the benefits. I believe in the good technology will bring. I see it helping humanity rather than destroying humanity. I do not disagree that technology can be misused and abused. It is exactly like nuclear technology. I love nuclear reactors but I do not like nuclear fission bombs meant for killing.

CBC has a small article concerning RFID tags in Canada.

It is a mediocre article since it does not delve deeply into the subject of RFID privacy. The point I like about the is that the Canadian government is aware of the privacy issues.

"But in February 2009, the Canada Border Services Agency decided to recall the database that was being used by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency. CBSA said a review of the project showed the potential for secondary use of the data under the USA Patriot Act, which could allow for the sharing of information with other American security officials."

Honestly, if our government was truly evil and against us, why would the take away RFID access from our largest partner, USA.

I have held the rare RFID Canadian passports (yes, the do exist and for a while now) and I held seen the USA ones. The USA RFID passports are scary because the have zero marking that the passport contains your personal data.

My opinion of the wireless age is that being smart about the subject is worth more than any encryption standard. If you choose to carry personal information in RFD form on you, you should take all precautions to prevent its theft, just like how you do not share your credit card information with anyone.

Also, everyone is so scared of being tracked, which is crazy. The only way not to be tracked is to have no metal on you, wear a bunny suit (level A biohazard suit), and step lightly. That way, they cannot track your movements from your passive electromagnetic field (the can still get you with lasers, radar, thermal, and sonar), get a dog to chase you by covering your scent, and step lightly so they can't see your foot prints.

What we need is a firm law saying no form of personal ID (and data), active or passive, is needed on a person. Just like how you are legally allowed to keep your SIN # private. The law should also state that tracking is prohibited without warrant. I would also like to see that the law state that companies are not allowed to ask its clients to sign away their right to not be tracked. Really hate lawyers for making people sign away their rights even though it is not always legal to do so.
