If you use Firefox in Linux and use the backspace as a shortcut for the back button, then you would notice that it doesn't behave the same way as on the Mac or Windows version.
It is somewhat annoying but there is an easy fix.
- Go to your address bar
- Type "about:config"
- Accept the warning
- Type into the search bar "backspace"
- Change "browser.backspace.action" from "2" to "0" (double clicking it should bring up the dialog to change it)
- Close the tab
- You shouldn't need to restart Firefox, the changes are instant
This has something to do with the legacy of Unix/Linux's shortcuts. Another example of this is the fact that the Preference option is found under "Edit" instead of "Tools" as in Windows.
